Take Time For You.

I don’t usually have a challenge taking time out for me when it’s my own choice. When I get really sick, it’s a funny thing. This time because it impacted my breathing, I was really forced to slow down. Yet nothing fell apart.

Unfortunately, that’s what women tend to do and I’m just like everyone else. It’s not that I don’t think things can move forward if I’m not around, I just tend to focus on positives so I decided it was just a nuisance and would go away on it’s own. Sometimes it does, this time it didn’t. The week became a blessing.

I did work but I gave myself permission to stop whenever I was feeling exhausted and sometimes I’d rest and then work a little more and sometimes not. I read books I hadn’t made time to finish, I watched a few old movies I’d been wanting to see and I finally started making notes for the new book I’m writing this year.

Why am I telling you this? Because, when I was 42, coming out of a 25 yr. marriage with no confidence, no self assurance, little sense of self and no money, I had no idea what I was going to do. I would never have dared to think it was OK to take time for me. Instead, I went through 8 years of dragging myself from one thing to another, in and out of terrible relationships and finally going bankrupt.

However, one day everything changed. I found out one of my children was sick and might die. I knew I had to make some major changes. I really plunged into learning about the power of the mind. By the time I was 50, my life was different, my daughter was well, I was coming out of the mire of negativity and my thinking was changing drastically.

That’s how I got where I am today in my mid- 60’s and it’s why I wrote my best selling book, The Astonishing Power of You, Simple Steps to Creating an Extraordinary Life. www.Theastonishingpowerofyou.com.

I purposely wrote a simple book because I wanted everybody to see that it’s not challenging to make change, it doesn’t take miracles, it takes making a decision that you really want to be in a different place then putting it into action. I put into the book what I myself used in the hope that other people would see they could do it too.

So………….going back to what I first said, don’t be afraid to take time for yourself, you don’t have to wait until you’re sick. You deserve to be the absolute best you can be and have all that you want in life, you really are a brilliant beam of light in this world however no-one will see it if you don’t acknowledge it first.

Have a wonderful week.

Amazing Woman's Day

Hi Everyone,

Its Valentine day this week and my goodness I think every year the stores carry more and more amazing stuff.

This past Saturday, I had the privilege of being invited to a special woman’s event called Amazing Woman's Day and it really was – amazing.

Not only was the room filled with 200 absolutely amazing women, there was great food, wonderful speakers, incredible drumming and it was at a really beautiful museum here in Los Angeles.

I don’t often talk about events this way. However, it truly was, as we Brits say, absolutely splendid.

So, what made it so amazing besides the awards to amazing women in various avenues of life, or the speakers, including Marie Diamond from “The Secret.”

The women made it amazing. I met women who had not started in their professions until they were over 60, women who had overcome horrendous trauma and moved beyond it to success and a woman who was 84 and still went to work as an attorney every day.

A roomful of truly spiritually minded women is a very empowering experience. There was so much kindness, inspiration and caring in the room it was practically palpable. One of the things that came across the most was that everyone has the same fears and doubts in life and that every woman is entitled to be as we were born to be, wealthy, healthy and joyous.

If you’re a male reading this, there were 4 men in attendance. Three who had actually bought a ticket and they enjoyed it just as much as the women. It truly was a fabulous day and the founder March Engle is to be admired for putting together such an incredible event.

Happy Valentine Day, have a wonderful week.

Have Gratitude in Life as well as Humility

I know this is not how I usually write so I hope you will forgive me. I am however getting really concerned about what’s going on these days.

I find that here in the US, people either can’t get enough of what’s going on in the upcoming elections or they can’t get enough of all the negative things that are happening to people like Britney Spears.

I’ve been listening to all the senators who want us to make them president, judging, putting down and criticizing each other, saying almost anything to make the other look bad in some way.

I listen to all the pathetic sad plights of the young people in the movie industry, losing custody of their kids, using drugs or as one well known movie actor said in people magazine when asked if he was going to marry the mother of his child, “It’s a love child.” Give me a break! Doesn’t anyone think of the damage this does to our young people, especially children!

Most of the movies and stuff on TV today is full of violence and often times I’m amazed when I see the plots played out. Then we wonder why there’s so much violence around us. Not that I’m saying TV or movies are solely to blame but it certainly doesn’t help.

What kind of example do these type of people set for the rest of the population? How are kids supposed to know that drugs are not OK, that having a child outside of marriage is not the greatest way for a child to grow up, that judging impairs people’s integrity and that it’s important to have gratitude in life as well as humility and that even when running a race, you can do it with dignity.

I have six grandchildren under 7 years old. I’d give a lot to see them grow up to a different kind of world.

I’d love to hear what other people think about this so if you’ve got anything to say, positive or negative, please drop me a line. In the meantime, have a wonderful, bright and peaceful week.

Live a more Healthy Lifestyle this Year

This week I would like to talk about something that has come to the forefront in the news because it concerns me and it takes away from attracting what you want in life.

Smoking and Obesity. The two top causes of death in the US. Both are addictions. I don’t use words like wrong and bad so I’m not going to do that about these two topics either, neither do I judge. However, I will say they can both ruin your health.

I always had great blood pressure and cholesterol. In my 20’s & 30’s I was always between 101 – 110lbs. In the UK where I come from, small portions are the norm so it wasn’t so difficult and I was young. I moved to the US when I was 38. In my 40’s & 50’s it went to 115-125lbs and in the last few years I gained another 15lbs.

Not really such a big deal I thought since I’m in my 60’s and I like the way I look. However, a few months ago at my physical my doctor didn’t agree! My blood pressure & my cholesterol was way too high for comfort. For my height of 5’ 1” he told me it was imperative to lose at least 15lbs or I would find myself having problems. I agreed to take medication until I could get both down naturally.

I kept hearing about how many people die from obesity and smoking, suddenly it seemed to be everywhere. We often think we can do all the things we did in our 20’s and 30’s forever and nothing is going to change. Not so! I want to see my six grandchildren grow up and watch their dreams come true. I realized that if I didn’t make changes my desire to live healthy until I am at least 100 would not happen.

I started researching. . I stopped smoking when I was 42. I didn’t have a great deal to lose and it wasn’t about weight, to me it was about being healthy. I read some amazing stories about people losing hundreds of pounds and here was I with a measly 10-15lbs. to lose. I decided if one human being can do it anyone can. It’s about how much you care about yourself. I made a decision. I didn’t have to do it by next week I could set small goals. It’s what you do on a long term consistent basis that counts.

If I wanted to be really healthy I needed to make some lifestyle changes. I decided to create my own program with Lean Cuisine. In the first 3 weeks I lost 8 lbs. This was just before the holidays and you know what food and the holidays can be like :) I decided in advance to give myself permission to have a little of everything I wanted so that I didn’t feel deprived. On January 2nd I weighed myself and found I had gained only half pound. It worked and I had eaten what I wanted. I’m now back on track. I can’t do lots of exercise, however I do walk and I park far away from everything so that I have to walk further. My body feels different and I feel great.

I’m sure there are people who will say “I don’t want to hear her story” or “she has so little to lose, it’s easy.” So why am I telling you this?

Because I care. It’s not about size, it’s about feeling great and being healthy, it’s about changing your mindset. Ask yourself if you really love how you feel? What will I feel like if I don’t live a more healthy lifestyle this year? Answer the questions honestly.

Clients have often said to me. “You’re a certified master clinical hynotherapist and certified NLP Practitioner, can you make me a CD to help me lose weight?” I decided to make some CD’s that would help people to stop smoking, lose weight and zap limiting beliefs.

The reason I wrote this is because if you’re not where you want to be in any area of your life and you want to attract abundance in all ways, it’s important to take care of your own health first. The CD’s will be ready in February. If you’re interested please sign up for the Monday Motivator and you will be notified as soon as they are released.

You’re a brilliant light in this world, let that brilliance shine for yourself.

Do you have a dream?

I arrived back last night from an amazing 4 day vision leader conference with incredible speakers and 50 other vision leader attendees, myself included. I met wonderful people and heard the most amazing visions and dreams. The main theme I heard from everyone who wants to make great changes in themselves and/or the world were the words soul and spirituality.

This workshop wasn’t about money. Everyone I hope knows that money is a big factor and definitely makes life a lot easier. And, that we all deserve to achieve wealth and abundance in life, however the visions I heard were about the help, teaching and gifts people can bring to the world first. Do that and wealth follows.

There we were in the midst of the worst storm that San Francisco has had for over a decade, t he winds were blowing about 70 miles an hour and yet the sound of this storm, the heaviness of the rain seemed to make it even more perfect and inside the room there was a wonderful feeling of love, peace and gratitude.

We made mind maps about our visions, we shared thoughts and ideas, we spent time learning from each other and also laughing a lot. We were all really excited to imagine the difference that people can make in the world if they make dreams come true.

Visions are about whatever it is you dream of. Nothing is too big if you believe in yourself. For example, there was someone who’s vision was about wanting to help women over 50 make it easier to create great relationships, there were others who wanted to make the world a safer place for kids, overall every vision I heard was in some way to teach people how to live their lives purposefully with passion.

I think everybody is looking for the same thing, a much deeper connection with their soul, spirituality and with other people looking for the same thing.

Don’t put your dreams on hold, nothing is silly or ridiculous, everything and anything is possible. Nothing happens over night and it takes time for visions to materialize. It doesn’t always happen exactly when we want it to. Sometimes the Universe works in it’s own time. All you have to do is believe in yourself, have patience and take action. And, never listen to people who put down your dreams. You can do anything and everything, you are a brilliant source of light.

There’s no such thing as perfection!

Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to go into a new beginning.

What do I mean by a new beginning? January is a wonderful time of the year to start fresh. To set new goals, make new wishes, create new visions and get on track with your dreams. Whatever you didn’t get done last year or the year before, take a look and see where you might have done it differently and then set actions to make it happen.

A word of caution! It’s OK to make mistakes and you definitely don’t have to be perfect. Perfectionism can create procrastination, lessen your confidence and take away your power. Achievement through being a perfectionist takes away, it doesn’t increase. It’s much more productive to get something done rather than spend time attempting to get it perfect and yet never getting it going.

Mistakes allow you to learn. Imagine if we never made mistakes, how would we learn?

So, make this a great beginning to this wonderful New Year, take one step at a time, create your goals and then don’t just look toward the end result, look at the daily actions you take and the weekly goals you create. Your goals will happen if you take it in small does. Remember to always be grateful for the abundance around you. Abundance is not about money, it’s about life.

Have a great month.

Are you doing this?

Wow, it’s been a wonderful and exciting year and I’m really looking forward to the coming year and all the new things that we have in the works. I’m not quite where I want to be just yet so I’m certainly not willing to ‘settle.’

Are you so comfortable where you are in life that you’re willing to just ‘settle?’

That means in all areas of life. Money, relationships, spiritually, on all levels.

I highly encourage you to stop tolerating and start transitioning. Whether it’s the first step or another step your journey continues and you will create it by the choices you make.

Remember, we are born to have as much abundance in life as we dream of and I don’t necessarily mean money. There’s abundance all around you. Look and you will see it.

The choices you make to create what you want in life are going to be up to you. If you are thinking in such a way that you can attract your dreams you will create them. You deserve to live a rich, fulfilling, happy life so think big and go for it.

If you’re not where you wanted to be, whether it’s personally or professionally, make sure that your goals and plans are set and ready to go by the beginning of 2008. Ask yourself more challenging questions.

Where do I want to be in 3 years? How do I want my life to look? What will happen if I don’t change anything next year? What’s one action I can take so that I’m ready to move toward achieving my dream life?

Due to the holidays, this will be my last blog post for 2007. Watch for details about our new Discovery Circle which is all about discovering new paths on which to walk in order to grow even more on all levels. Sign up for our monthly newsletter and Monday Motivator and you will automatically be notified.

We have a very special guest call for January. I will be interviewing the founder of the Gratitude Movement Sarah Ban Breathnach of Simple Abundance.

Happy Holidays everyone and make 2008 your greatest year ever.

WHAT YOU FOCUS ON EXPANDS

Because of many conversations I’ve had recently, it has become obvious to me, that both professionally and personally, there are still many people who don’t get the “What you focus on expands,” theory.

As I’ve said many times before, attracting what you want in life is about your energy and the energy in the universe around you. It doesn’t just depend on your thinking, your words, the focus you have or the action you take. It depends on everything working in alignment, especially your mind.

What you focus on does expand. If you are constantly talking about debt that’s where you will stay. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be aware of your finances, it means have a plan to get it cleared up, take the action and then let it go. Make different choices and start preparing on bringing abundance into your life.

While I’m talking about it abundance isn’t just about money, it’s about being grateful for all the wonderful simple things in life.

If you are afraid or doubtful, stop focusing on the fear and doubt. It is necessary to acknowledge it because that keeps you real. Then tell the fear it has no power over you and then move forward into action. Remember, that fear is just “false evidence appearing real.” You have a choice. I encourage you to choose Power, purpose and passion.

If you have an illness of any description, stop focusing on feeling awful, getting tired or anything else. I have fibromialgia and 3 herniated cervical discs that can play havoc if I allow it. I choose not to. I take the necessary action, I don’t do the woe is me and every day I use the power of positive thinking.

If you want to lose weight, stop focusing on losing weight. Look at changing the way you eat, think and exercise. Add relaxation or meditation into your day, it’s been highly researched that there’s a link between stress and weight gain. Focus only on getting healthy and that’s what will happen. Be happy with who you are.

These are just a few examples. There’s an exercise I often give to clients called My Perfect Day. Write about how your perfect day would look if you could have it any way you want. Remember to write about what you ‘do want’ and not what you don’t want. Post it somewhere you can see it and live each day the way you would ideally like to live.

‘Til next time, have a wonderful week.

Simple not Stressful

Here we are almost at Thanksgiving and we know that once that day passes, before we turn around Christmas will be here.

The secret to this time of the year, or any time, in order not to get stressed, is to decide in advance that you are going to stay calm, as relaxed as possible and organized. It’s all about how you choose to think and how you plan so that when the holidays arrive you are not still running around the day before buying gifts, groceries or whatever and completely stressed.

There’s approx 4 weeks until Christmas Eve. Once Thanksgiving is over, if you haven’t already made a plan, take a few minutes and get it done. Here are a few suggestions:
  • First, write out everything that you need to do before the holidays that don’t include working. Keeping it in your head doesn’t work. Writing is more productive.
  • If you are going to volunteer to help serve a meal to the homeless or something similar, make sure you arrange your days around it so that you can do it with ease and grace.
  • Prioritize. By doing this you will know what needs to get done now and what really can wait until a week before.
  • Write out a gift list. Think about what you want to buy each person so that you have some idea when you get to the stores. Schedule in your planner exactly when you intend to get this done. Make it an appointment with yourself.
  • If you are making the holiday meal, write your grocery list and buy and pre-cook as much as you can in advance.
  • Simplify, simplify and simplify even more. Whether its work related or not, don’t make everything into a big production. It just needs to be warm and friendly. The connection you have with the people you love is the most important thing at holidays.
  • For those of you who have children who will soon be on holiday break, plan ahead so that you have things organized to keep them busy, line up a babysitter, grandparent or friend. Do whatever is needed to keep Mom from getting overly stressed.
  • One of the most important things is to remember to breathe. When you are feeling tight in your shoulders, do shoulder shrugs and take deep breaths, it releases tension.
One of the most important things to remember is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. The holidays are about having fun and being with friends and family.

Have a wonderful, fun filled and joyful Thanksgiving.

‘Til next time

Money is not the be all and end all of everything.

Having just finished my new book launch and having The Astonishing Power of You reach #5 on Amazon’s best selling list on November 1st was very exciting and I am so very grateful and thankful for every single person who contributed to making it a successful launch. We have extended the special gift offer until November 21st. If you missed it and would like to receive $2,000 in FR^E bonus gifts check out the details at http://www.theastonishingpowerofyou.com/amazon.html.

Unfortunately, two days after the launch I got really sick with some kind of nasty flu virus that knocked me for off my feet and for 5 days I was barely able to work so I’m now getting back on track and very grateful to be feeling better and more energized. I got well enough just in time to attend the certification program that I had committed to many months ago and this past weekend I became one of the first certified Simple Abundance leaders with Sara Ban Breathnach, which during 2008 will allow me to facilitate simple abundance workshops using her material.

Meeting Sara and being taught by her was truly a delight. For someone who is so well known and has been on Oprah more than 12 times, she is one of the most down to earth, real people that I’ve met in a very long time.

I always talk about gratitude being so important and during this past week this became re-enforced in so many ways. Although money certainly makes life easier, and being a business coach I teach people how to create wealth, there’s so much more to life. As I’ve said in the past, abundance isn’t just about money. Look around you, take in life, see the little things and become truly grateful for what you do have instead of focusing on what you don’t have. Money is not the be all and end all of everything.

As we reach the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas I encourage you to start thinking of all the ways in which you can give back to your community, your friends, family and the world at large. Money isn’t always the answer. Volunteer to serve food to the homeless, (I like to do this on Christmas day) baby-sit for a single Mother so she can have an hour to herself, read to the elderly, there are so many ways. By giving, we truly receive so much in return.

Have a truly happy and wonderful Thanksgiving and a great week.

FRE^E Bonus Gifts for all. Happy Halloween.

I’m very excited to tell you that my new book The Astonishing Power of You, Simple Steps to Creating an Extra-ordinary Life, is being released tomorrow, Thursday November 1st, 2007.

It’s been a very interesting year. I never cease to be amazed by the fact that however much we’ve already learned there is always something even newer to learn. What we focus on really does expand and the dreams and goals I put on my wonderful vision board at the beginning of the year are starting to come to fruition.

We always need to remember that not only is there a Law of Attraction, there is also a Law of Gestation. For our dreams to materialize we need to have the vision, put plans into action and then have patience. The timing isn’t always exactly when we want it, however, if we persevere what we want can happen. My new vision board for 2008 is ready, is yours? If not, start planning it now so your subconscious starts to recognize your dreams for next year.

I have a direct and very simple outlook on how to create positives in life which is why I decided to write this book as if I was having a conversation with you, rather than a long involved process. I also decided that if people were going to buy the book, I would like them to receive additional gifts for no cost.

In order to do that, I joined with over 25 authors and best selling experts who are supporting the launch of The Astonishing Power of You by contributing thousands of dollars in FRE^ Bonus Gifts especially for You.

If you buy just one copy of the book between 12.15a.m. – 11.55p.m. Eastern time tomorrow Thursday November 1st, you will receive thousands of dollars in FR^E Bonus Gifts from these best selling experts and authors. You can click on this link www.theastonishingpowerofyou.com/amazon.html to get all the details about this very special offer. Remember, you need to wait until 12.15a.m. Eastern time November 1st.

IT MAY TAKE A VILLAGE

Sometimes like the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” it does take a village to get where we want to go, whether it’s in a relationship, with a friend, family or professionally. It’s important to have people who can support you in any area of life when you need it.

In your personal life it’s great to have at least one person, a friend, family member or whomever, someone you know and trust that will let you lean on them if necessary. Some one who can lend an ear and encourage you when you’re down.

The same applies to your business. Doesn’t be a lone wolf; create a team. Use whatever support you can afford that will sustain your business needs and free you up to do what you do best. If you can’t afford to hire people, look at hiring an intern. If you need a website, go to a local college and ask a student. If you look you will find what you need and having help will allow you to focus on what you do best.

Following on with that, it would be remiss of me not to mention the horrendous fires we are having here in Southern California. The worst in California’s history. Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated, homes have been lost and places have been declared a state of emergency. Although I don’t live in a fire area the winds are spreading the smoke everywhere and I feel like I’ve been breathing it in all day. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must feel like where the fires are situated.

Any kind of tragedy often gives me pause for thought. We really need people when something negative happens in life. Family, friends, colleagues and it’s probably going to take a village for many of these displaced people to re-build. If you look at situations that have happened in the past, it’s always taken groups of people to help build things back up.

For those of us that practice the principles of The Law of Attraction, it does not mean that people have attracted these fires. Nature is nature and sometimes things are beyond our control. In any given situation the most important thing to remember is that everything is our responsibility and nothing is our fault.

Wherever you live right now, I would encourage you to take a look at your life and remember that in every challenge there is a gift of discovery. When you have any kind of challenge in your life, ask yourself what you can learn about yourself or the world around you from the situation. My line for many years, based on my own experiences, has been, “from something bad, can come something good,” and even in the worst of times, I’ve learned something huge from the situation.

My heart & prayers go out to all the people who are in fire areas.

THE POWER OF ATTITUDE

Attitude is definitely a state of being! It’s a choice you make. I’ve heard every excuse over the years, both as a therapist and a coach about why someone didn’t reach a goal, have time, follow through, leave an unrewarding job or relationship, keep commitments or just have fun, enjoy life and be happy.

I also in years past, made the same excuses, had the same negative attitude and learned how to make the changes so that today, I live the life that I want. I’ve been there, done that and it doesn’t work. My dream vision is to see everyone having a wonderful attitude about themselves, their lives, their professions and living the life they dream about. It does take some work to get there and it can happen.

I’ve heard the words, “I don’t know” “I don’t have the money,” more times than I care to think about and my answer has always been the same. “Yes, you do, but first you have to open your heart and be truthful with yourself.”

Every time you say “I don’t know,” or “I don’t have the money,” that’s what you are creating.

If the attitude you have is that you can’t take a vacation because there isn’t enough money, that’s the way it will stay. Money is the biggest nemesis for most people. If your attitude is that there’s no great relationship out there for you, there won’t be, or that you can’t be successful in business and you are in fear, anxiety and doubt about yourself, you don’t leave yourself open to attracting what you want.

When you start asking yourself “how can I create enough money to take some time off,” the universe will start working for you. Start doing things for and with yourself without worrying about a relationship and you will open yourself up to attracting what you want. Think positively about your business and you will draw business to you.

Changing attitudes has to happen on all levels, physically, emotionally and spiritually. You have to be willing to walk the talk! You can read every book and take every workshop but if you keep justifying without facing your own truth, it’s almost impossible to move forward successfully!

Whether its fear, anxiety, overwhelm or stress, all these feelings are created by the way you think and the attitude you have.

Apart from the fact that I learned this for myself, one of the most important things I discovered is that it doesn’t have to be a long or difficult process. Getting caught up in the rhetoric is often what holds people back. There are many simple and direct tools to use that can help you move forward. One of the most important tools is; that you make a decision to have a positive attitude each day and that you intend to create the life that you want.

Shoulda, Coulda Have to!!

I think these words were almost like a mantra during my most developmental childhood years “you should”, “You could,” “You must,” “You have to.” They became ingrained into my subconscious, as are most things we see and hear as children during our young years.

As I discovered over the course of 60 years, I wasn’t the only one who received these messages. I’d go so far as to say that probably, from my experience with people and with clients, that about 95% of the population live their lives with this kind of thinking.

Unfortunately, this is really detrimental to our growth, spiritually, personally and professionally. When we think this way, we are not following our own path, we are following the path of someone else through the messages we have stored on the subconscious level.

There are no, shoulds, musts, could, have to, there’s really only what it is that you love to do and are passionate about doing. When you find yourself saying or even hearing these words, ask yourself a couple of questions. “Who said I should or must.” Do I think it’s necessary? Is it something I really want to do or am I doing it because I think I’m supposed to and will feel guilty if I don’t?” “Will doing this get me closer to the results I want in life or business?”

Hopefully, your answer will be no, I’m doing this because I really want to because it’s something that makes me happy.

The great thing about life is that dreams can come true. If your’s are not materializing the way you want take a look at the words you are using. The words we use = the way we are thinking = the action we take = the results we create.

Build your life for you, set goals for you, and achieve your dreams for you. You don’t need someone else’s validation to live the life you want.

When you don’t have control let it go!

Last week I was having huge challenges with my outlook email program and for over 24 hours couldn’t send email or receive it through the usual channels. When running a business this can result in huge issues. Without professional help there was little I could do. This was out of my control. Thank god I learned many years ago, that if I don’t personally have control over something I need to make a choice to let it go. Life happens, no matter what. Getting stressed is not the answer.

This was not something I myself could resolve. Even my fabulous VA Mandi couldn’t resolve this one. I sat on the phone with the hosting company for what seemed like hours both Wednesday and Thursday. I was on hold at times, for as long as 15 minutes.

20 years ago, I didn’t have the patience I have today. I would not have been able to let go. I would have driven myself insane trying to make it work, got more and more irritated and stressed and then would still have to call someone to fix things.

These days, nothing is so important that I have to allow it to cause me stress or impatience. Instead I made a conscious decision that my business wouldn’t fall apart if I didn’t have email for a while, I could use the time to work on other things. It actually was a plus. I got a lot more achieved with this mindset, didn’t have to bother with email and never had a moment of stress.

I have a framed copy of the serenity prayer on the bookshelf in my office. I often use this to remind me about patience and control. Like the majority of people I’ve worked with over the past 25 years, I too come from a place where being in control and being perfect was almost part of my DNA. I’ve proven that this kind of thinking can be changed. For those of you who might not know the serenity prayer:

“God Grant Me the Serenity to Accept the Things I Cannot Change, the Courage to Change the Things I Can And the Wisdom to Know the Difference.”

Whether in your personal or professional life, remember that learning to be patient and letting go of control will help you to create a life that is more grounded and peaceful.

You are worthwhile

Sometimes we’re in the right place at the right time and that’s where I felt I was on Saturday. I attended the Los Angeles Chapter of National Speakers Association Conference in Palm Springs, which if you know where this is, you know it was hot, actually around 110 degrees. Thank God for air-conditioning.

I had the pleasure of listening to many wonderful speakers. However, what spoke most highly to me, was not just that they were successful or great speakers, they were great people. One in particular left a very vivid image on my mind.

I had the honor of being at a round table session with Robert Danzig, the head of the Hearst Corporation, Dean of Hearst Management Institute. I’m sure you know the company I mean. The most incredible quality about this man was his humility and authenticity. His story of success is quite remarkable. I can’t share it all here, however, I’d like to share with you something he spoke about. If you would like to know more about him, his books and work go to www.bobdanzig.com

This man was raised in the foster care system, no family, no comforts, no money, no nothing. When he was 11 yrs. old a social worker said to him, “you are worthwhile,” that was his first step in self worth. He stood on her shoulders. When he was 16 yrs. old, an office manager at his first job, (yes, 16. He did eventually attend college and received a fellowship to Stanford University,) said that she believed he was “full of promise.” That gave him the impetus to have ambition. He stood on her shoulders too.

He says; “seek out those who offer you their shoulders to stand on. Be open to people who offer to stand shoulder to shoulder with you if you are facing any kind of adversity. Welcome people who inspire you to keep going when you come across stones and boulders along your journey. The only requirement you need is to be the seeker – the willing vessel to allow others to be your source of strength.”

I’m in my 60’s and from my own life experiences I know that no matter what your background, race, religion, size, age, education or current situation, the only thing that can stop you from achieving what you want in life is yourself. You have as much inner courage and strength as you choose to use. You can do what Bob Danzig has done, if you so choose.

Time for New Beginnings

Here we are in September. The end of summer is near and I see this as a time for new beginnings. Labor Day is over, the kids go back to school, people are back from vacation and it’s time to ‘start’ thinking about next year’s intentions, goals and successes. Not including this month, there are 3 months left until the end of 2007 and it’s never too early to start planning.

When I talk about success, I’m not just talking about financial success. There are many different kinds of success. The word might mean different things to different people. I recently heard someone say, “Wealthy people have money but people with money are not necessarily wealthy.”

In my 60 plus years, I have certainly found this to be true. I’ve met many millionaires over the years who seem to have everything, yet they are not happy.

Although money and things often make life easier, they don’t necessarily make our lives better. Money doesn’t always create freedom. In fact, money is often used as a band-aid. Real freedom and success is created from within. Success is how you see it in your life, what it means to you, not what it means to someone else.

According to the dictionary the word Success means, “a favorable result that one has hoped for.”

I often ask new clients the following question, it tells me a lot about where they are coming from within. My request would be that you answer this one for yourself.

“What does success mean to me.”

Who are you surrounding yourself with?

There were a couple of interesting things I heard during the past week that I wanted to pass on to you to nudge your thinking.

I don’t spend time with people who are negative, people who are not generally happy or people who more often than not live in fear. I don’t want any of that negative energy around me.

I certainly don’t know everything, I learn just like everyone else and I continue to do so. I’ve been very fortunate and have surrounded myself with people who can teach me things I don’t know or help me to enhance things I have already learned.

Who are you surrounding yourself with? Do you surround yourself with people who inspire you, who laugh and are happy 90% of the time?

Do you really hear what people say? Not just listen to the words but really hear them or are you often anxiously waiting when someone is speaking, to tell your story and what’s going on in your life? Make a habit of really hearing when people speak. This will also help you to determine what kind of thinking they have and whether it’s bringing positive or negative energy into your energy field.

The other interesting thing I heard was from one of my mentors, Chris Howard who said, "Wealthy People have money, however people with money are not necessarily wealthy."

All of this adds up to becoming really consciously aware. Are you attracting positive energy and creating the life of your dreams?

Have a wonderful week and happy Labor Day.

Perseverance = Power

I went to see a great show last week, “Jersey Boys.” The Frankie Valli story. This was my era of music and it was really great entertainment with fabulous music that brought back lots of memories of my younger days. It also gave me another ‘Aha’ moment I didn’t expect in that setting. If you don’t give up, you really can achieve what you want. I would like so much to see everyone understanding this.

Often we hear about people who bring great pleasure to the world without ever knowing what their back story is. Frankie Valli’s story was very interesting.

To make it brief, he ran with a gang of really wild kids who had dealings with the mafia and got into crime and lots of mischief resulting in jail time. He could just as easily have taken that road. Instead he wanted more and became famous for giving pleasure instead of famous for being infamous.

Often when people want more and it’s too challenging they give up. Sometimes, without realizing it, they are on the brink of success and they stop. Why??

One of the reasons is they don’t want it badly enough. Sometimes it’s because they are really afraid they will fail and don’t believe in themselves sufficiently. It’s all about how you are thinking. I’ve said this many times before, change the way you think and you really can change your life.

That’s what Frankie Valli did. Never mind what challenges were thrown at him and there were many, he didn’t see giving up as an option. He was passionate about his music and loved what he did and that’s really all it takes.

Make sure you really love what you do and are passionate about it. Keep moving forward and although I can’t promise miracles, I do know that miracles can happen. You have the ability to achieve anything you want in life. Go out and make it happen.

Relationships. How do you handle yours?

The Law of Attraction and your astonishing mind works in all areas of life. It is especially powerful when you are connecting with other people.

Whether married, single, gay, straight, friends, colleagues, young or old, relationships play a very powerful part in creating success in life.

Of course, the most important relationship you can ever have is the one you have with yourself. When you feel really good about who you are and others see you as a confident, fulfilled person, you gain more respect and it makes you very attractive to the universe.

Relationships are part of life and life is about love and energy which, in turn, allows you to attract what you want into your life.

Even in the workplace. If you spend a good part of your life working with other people, creating good relationships with colleagues is of prime importance to your daily health.

If you find yourself arguing with someone and wanting to be right, let go. It’s a no win situation. Take a deep breath before you speak then act, don’t re-act. Always listen very carefully to what people are saying, don’t just hear their voice, listen to the words.

One of the ways to stop someone cold if they continually need to be right is to be the bigger of the two. Step back and say, “You’re right.” They have nowhere to go with it once you say that. As long as you know the truth about the given situation, you don’t have to be right. This applies whether it’s work, marriage, partnership or friendship.

When people continually argue that they are right, they have a great ‘need’ to be heard and it’s the only way they have of being in control.

Relationships honestly can make your days great or challenging. Also, remember that men and women think differently. There are no rights and wrongs just differences

That’s it ‘til next time.
Here to your success and brilliance
